Enrollment ProceduresAll Summer Institute participants should complete an on-line application by June 1, 2008. Participants in the Summer Institute may elect almost any combination of courses within the timetable constraints as long as they meet described prerequisites. Participants may not elect more than 6 credits per four-week session, and no more than a total of 12 credits for the entire eight weeks of the program without the specific approval of the Summer Institute Director. This 6 credit per session norm assumes that the participant has full time to devote to these activities. Participants who also enroll in other University programs and/ or hold a part-time job may find it difficult to take more than one Summer Institute course per session. All applications will be acknowledged either via electronic mail or by letter. Please call us if you have any questions about your application, or if you do not receive an acknowledgment. Participants may apply for admission in the following categories: Participation Without Academic CreditSummer ScholarsSummer Scholars are participants who wish to attend courses at the Summer Institute but do not require academic credit or a formal grade for their participation. Summer Scholars are expected to limit their participation to two courses per four-week session, and to participate fully in those courses. In order to initiate admission as a Summer Scholar, participants must:
Payment of Summer Scholar and workshop fees must be made in full before the start of classes. Nonpayment by a sponsor becomes the liability and responsibility of the student. Admission for Academic CreditAll Summer Institute courses may be taken for spring or summer term credit in the Division of Survey Methodology. Please specify on your application your preference of term. The dates of the courses are not affected by the enrollment term, but grades for spring enrollments will not be submitted to the Registrar’s Office until after the end of the summer term. University of Michigan students are encouraged to select summer term enrollment unless they have a compelling financial aid reason to choose spring term. If you must enroll in spring term, and if your funding agency needs a statement about the late grades, please contact our office. Summer Guests must elect summer term enrollment. Please note that all Summer Institute courses are closed courses - you must receive electronic permission from the Summer Institute to formally elect any course. Participants may attend Summer Institute courses for credit as one of the following three types of students. Current or New University of Michigan StudentsStudents currently active in an undergraduate or graduate program at the University of Michigan should follow these steps for admission and enrollment:
New UM students who have been admitted for Fall, 2008 can ask their department to advance their admission to the summer term. Let us know if you need help. Summer GuestsStudents who are not currently enrolled at the University of Michigan and who wish to enroll for academic credit should follow these steps for admission and enrollment:
Applicants for Summer Guest admission will be reviewed on the basis of their qualifications and experience. Summer Guests must complete both the enrollment process with the University of Michigan Registrar’s Office and with the Summer Institute. All completed applications and transcripts, both for graduate and undergraduate admissions, should reach our office by May 30, 2008. Late applications may be accepted, but formal admission may be delayed. |
