Data Collection Activities

Data were collected at the following UM buildings:

• Chemistry
• ISR-Thompson
• Rackham
• Space Research
• Fleming

1. Key Informant interviews with selected individuals inside/outside UM community: administrators, faculty, facilities managers, architects, etc.

2. Focus groups with different members of UM community: facility managers, clerical & administrative staff, faculty, students, etc.

3. Systematic observations: to observe behaviors & traces and to measure ambient conditions:

• people (types of clothing, use of utilities, choices for mobility, etc,)
• environment (temperature, relative humidity, illumination)
• places (individual and common spaces within buildings)

4. Web surveys administered to samples of different user groups tapping: what they do, what they did, what they think, what they know
