Abstract
This project will build expertise among U.S. scholars on the topics of economic and business development and public policy designed to encourage the development of free markets in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union (NIS).
The program will be aimed at U.S. researchers with a demonstrated commitment to the study of CEE and the NIS for research that is focused on assisting private sector and market development in this region. Priority will be given to projects that investigate the link between economic development and social, ethnic or religious conflict in the region. Priority will also be given to proposals covering the regions of the Balkans, the Caucasus, Ukraine, Central Asia and the outlying regions of Russia. Results of the research will be widely circulated in the form of both research papers and policy briefs.
