Hanes Walton, Jr. is Professor of Political Science and Senior Research Scientist in the Center for Political Studies. Professor Walton's principal areas of interest, at the moment, are American Politics, Political Parties, Presidential Elections, Presidency, Voting Behavior, and African Politics. At the Center for Political Studies he has received funding for the following major studies: (1) the Causes and Consequences of Civic Engagement in America from the Pew Foundation, (2) the four color mapping of all Presidential Elections, 1789-2004 from Rackham Graduate School, Dean of LS&A, and Vice Provost Office of Multicultural Affairs, and (3) a Panel Study of the 2002 Georgia Confederate Flag Referendum from the Director of ISR. Currently, efforts are underway to gain funding for a larger survey study of this political symbol of the South as well as a geopolitical study of American Presidential elections.
